In the heart of downtown Austin, the Live Music Capitol of The World, Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater (ACL Live) is a world-class live music venue and home of the longest running music series on television—Austin City Limits. ACL Live promotes over 80 concerts a year as well as over 100 private events, including SXSW, benefit galas, parties, and conferences. This state-of-the-art soundstage with in-house video capture capabilities has become one of the country’s premiere content and media centers, reaching millions of viewers worldwide.
My primary role is sponsorship sales and account management for official venue sponsors of the ACL Live and 3TEN ACL Live venues, as well as sponsors of various special events and event series.
Here are a few examples of my clients and the custom brand integrations that I built for them.
Tito's Handmade Vodka
Tito's Handmade Vodka has been a proud venue sponsor of ACL Live at The Moody Theater since it opened in 2010. After working for Tito's Handmade Vodka on the brand side for three years, I moved over to ACL Live in 2012, and they became my client.
I helped concept and project manage the branding of two prominent bars in the venue, with the production help of Design Build Adventure (photos below). I also project managed their private event rentals, including their industry events and 20th Anniversary party.
I worked closely with our third-party concessionaire to maintain quality brand presentation at the venue's twelve bars. We also worked together to create the venue's signature "Red Headed Stranger" cocktail featuring Tito's Handmade Vodka, which has become one of the venue's top selling items. ACL Live at The Moody Theater continues to be one of Tito's top-selling accounts nationwide.
Anheuser-Busch
The Budweiser and Bud Light brands are synonymous with live music, and ACL Live is no exception. Working directly with both the Anheuser-Busch regional sales team as well as the local distributor's marketing team (Brown Distributing Company), I built a multi-year sponsorship deal to showcase their brands and entertain their many customers. From a branded bar on the mezzanine level, to full-scale private brand events, Anheuser-Busch has also been a proud sponsor of the venue since it's opening in 2010.
Brown-Forman / Jack Daniel's
Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey has also been a proud sponsor of ACL Live since opening, with branded bars throughout the balcony level, and a history-filled art gallery featuring the iconic photography of Jim Marshall -- The Jack & Jim Gallery.
As part of their venue integration, Jack Daniel's hosts pre-show events in the Jack & Jim Gallery, many of which I concepted and produced. Working with my local brand counterparts and their event marketing agency, we hosted unique pre-show experiences playing off the Jack Daniel's products. For example, we expanded upon Gentleman Jack's "Order of The Gentleman" national campaign by partnering with a local barber shop for shaving demonstrations, a local men's retailer for bow-tying tutorials, and W Hotel's catering team for Jack Daniel's inspired bites.
Red Bull
ACL Live has hosted several Red Bull private events, including an F1 weekend closing party, Red Bull Battlegrounds video gaming competition and live stream, and Red Bull Music Academy showcases. I've also helped connect the dots for scouting a venue location for their SXSW Sound Select activations at The Belmont.
To keep the party going after ACL Live shows, I worked with Red Bull to host The Eleventh Hour Lounge, a series of post-show dance parties on the music porch main lobby, featuring local deejays under Red Bull's Thre3Style program.
In addition, I have worked with our concessions team to keep Red Bull's merchandising standards a top priority throughout our venue's bars. Red Bull also hosts various internal meetings and training sessions at our facility.
Special Events
ACL Live hosts various yearly events, which opens the door for additional sponsorships and hospitality packages on a one-off basis. In exchange for branding on promotional activities, tickets & hospitality, and on-site integration, such sponsorships benefit clients who might not have the appetite for a year-round sponsorship. Events include Zombie Ball halloween party, F1 race weekend concerts, Pachanga Latino Music Series, and more. For each of these events, I also served as co-producer on front-of-house elements in addition to on-site management of sponsor activations.
The Wine Down is a free concert series, which started primarily as an open house for when ACL Live first opened but quickly became a yearly tradition for downtown Austinites. I worked closely with the 2nd Street District marketing team to curate neighborhood restaurants and retailers to provide pop-up experiences on-site. I also fostered a relationship with Austin Music Foundation to become the series' charity benefactor.
